SMTP, IMAP & Pop which one to use?

IMAP and POP are simply the protocols that are used which allow you to download email messages from the mail servers on to your computer, which you can access via an email client such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird or Mac Mail etc. IMAP or POP?  We recommend using IMAP as your email protocol. Read on to find out more. SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol): Sending Emails SMTP is the standard protocol for sending emails. When you compose and send an email, your email client uses SMTP to transmit the message to the recipient’s email server. This protocol ensures that your email reaches its destination reliably.  IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol): Accessing and Managing Emails IMAP allows you to access and manage your emails stored on a remote server. Unlike POP3, IMAP keeps your emails on the server, enabling you to access them from multiple devices while maintaining synchronisation. This means actions like reading, deleting, or organising emails into folders are reflected across all your devices.  Advantages Disadvantages When should I use IMAP? Use IMAP if you need to access your mail on more than one device. POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3): Downloading Emails POP3 is designed for downloading emails from the server to your local device. Once downloaded, emails are typically removed from the server, allowing you to access them offline. However, this can lead to challenges if you need to access your emails from multiple devices, as the emails are not synchronised across them.  Advantages Disadvantages When should I use POP?  Use POP if you want to access your mail from only one device. Choosing the Right Protocol • Use SMTP when you need to send emails. • Use IMAP if you require access to your emails from multiple devices and need them to stay synchronised. • Use POP3 if you prefer to download emails to a single device and access them offline, understanding that they won’t be available on other devices. Selecting the appropriate protocol depends on your specific email usage needs and how you manage your devices.
